AB - Describes Aaron Eby's 'Geschichte der Mennoniten in Canada' (1872). Born in Ontario, Canada, in 1838, he studied medicine at the University of Toronto and practiced in Sebringville. He was encouraged to write a history of Mennonites in Ontario by Carl Justus van der Smissen. Eby's historical sources rested primarily on personal interviews and correspondence, and also on secondary literature no longer available. The text itself was divided into seven broad categories: a foreword, early history (1799-1847), schism (1848-53), Old Mennonite revival (1870-71), New Mennonites (1870-71), Amish Mennonites, and a conclusion. The essay was published in serial form in the Mennonite General Conference newspaper 'Der Mennonitische Friedensbote.' The essay is useful for its unique information. [F. Schubert]
