Horst. Second son of Bishop Benjamin Eby and Maria Brubacher, Eby bought Lancaster Mills following Jacob Shoemaker's financial failure in 1851. The diary is in three parts: weather observations, a visiting register, and notes. Horst samples the first two sections, and has fully translated only the notes which include family information and mention many acquaintances. The diaries record both local gossip and events of wider significance. In July 1873, Eby describes how he and others went to Toronto to meet the Russians on their way to Manitoba. He also comments on Mennonite religious issues. Many entries deal with sickness, death and funerals.}, year = {1982}, number = {Book, Whole}, pages = {59 p. ill., facsim.+}, publisher = {The Author}, address = {Mount Forest}, language = {English}, }
