Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo were the most active Ontario centres, but the real strength of the Bund was in Western Canada. The Kitchener-Waterloo group challenged the leadership of Gerhard, who was forced to resign in 1935. The society's failure is attributed to the strength of the German-Canadians' ties to Canada.
