Lorna Bergey, who provides detailed annotations and appropriate illustrations, considers that the original articles were probably written by Peter Erb William Moyer who published similar sketches in his weekly newspaper, the "Waterloo Chronicle" in about 1866. Moyer's facts and interpretation of the township's heroic pioneers, mainly between 1800 and 1812, influenced later historians of the township such as Ezra E. Eby.
