AB - Provides an analysis of two regions of eastern Canada, Pontiac (250km W of Montreal) and eastern Ontario (four counties adjacent to the Quebec border and the outermost suburbs of Montreal). The legacy of various settler groups (French, British, German, Polish) is identified and a range of landscape indicators (relating to buildings and to the details of the rural landscape) are analysed statistically. Attention is drawn not only to francophone/anglophone contrasts but also to the diversity of local cultural conditions. -H.Clout
