AB - An account of efforts to unify German secular and religious associations in Ontario in the 1930s by stressing their common heritage and language. The author shows how Straubinger persisted in spite of anti-German tensions in the 1930s and 1940s, maintaining that the events he organized were not pro-Nazi. Though provincial in scope, the article suggests the significance of the Kitchener community in preserving German ethnicity.
