AB - A discussion of settlers' letters which were encouraged and published by promoters of a colonization project by which emigrants from the southern English counties (such as Sussex, Surrey, Kent and Hampshire) were assisted to settle in Upper Canada in the 1830s. Although the essay barely mentions Waterloo County, it provides useful context for the emigration of such local Petworth families as the Dearlings, Tilts and Cosens.
