AB - Part of a larger study of the settlement by escaped slaves and other blacks in the area to the north and west of Waterloo County, which included in the 1830s and 1840s the northern half of Wellesley Township and the western portion of Woolwich Township. The author examines the efforts of Methodist and Baptist missionaries from the United States whose schools and preaching places at the Mount Pleasant and Mount Hope Missions in western Peel Township served blacks in the whole Queen's Bush area.
