The author concludes that all centres except Oshawa were multifunctional, with the predominant functions being manufacturing, servicing, retailing and construction. Of these four functions, only manufacturing and retailing are classified as stable in the early 1960s. The number of functions performed by the urban centres is generally found to have increased.
