AB - Most of this account of the company's role in the settlement of western Ontario is concerned with the Huron Tract (later organized as the counties of Huron and Perth) immediately to the west of Waterloo. But the Canada Company also owned the three northern and four southern concessions of Wilmot Township. References to Wilmot are all concerned with the building of the Huron Road across the township to link the Company's first town settlement at Guelph with most of its lands to the west. Useful maps on pages 46 and 180 show the Huron Road and the Company lands in the township, in the latter case accompanied by the survey notes of Mahlon Burwell.
