AB - A German translation of an 1852 dispatch from the Governor General relating Canada's imports, exports, transportation, population, agriculture and other production. Five thousand copies of this translation were sent to Germany in order to encourage more emigration from Europe. In a brief appendix, Peter Eby stresses the great advantages to German emigrants of choosing such townships as Waterloo, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich, already settled by German-speaking people. He notes the special opportunities for teachers of German to make better salaries than their American counterparts.
