The introduction notes the association with St John's Lutheran Church (Canada Synod), founded in 1852 with the present stone church built in 1872. When the local population declined, the church was joined with St Peter's Lutheran Church in Linwood from 1907. A campaign to save the church building in 1973 succeeded.
