Recorded as unmarried and living at home at the time of her mother's death in 1894, she is then believed to have worked with the Chicago Home Mission, an early Mennonite city outreach mission, in 1894-5. She wrote to J.S. Coffman of her hope to establish an orphans' home in Berlin. Articles Barbara contributed to The Herald of Truth from the 1890s are analyzed by the author for clues to the main features of her faith.},
