  abstract = {Annotated bibliographic references to about 890 books, 620 booklets, 540 reports, 290 theses, and 1,850 articles and notes, as well as newspapers, chapters in books, directory series, gazetteers and yearbooks. Items relate to the settlement and development of Waterloo County between prehistory and the end of 1972 when the county was restructured as the Regional Municipality of Waterloo. Included are entries for the more than 1,250 items in the 79 annual reports and volumes published by Waterloo Historical Society from 1913 to 1991. The numbered references have abstracts of scope and content and are organized in a mainly thematic sequence. There are detailed indexes to authors, places, topical subject headings, corporate subjects and personal subjects, as well as introductions to Waterloo County, the Waterloo Historical Society, the Waterloo Regional Project, and procedures of compiling the bibliography. Originally created by the Waterloo Regional Project team, with the assistance of InMagic software, the database has been maintained and updated with entries for new literature published since this volume went to press at the end of 1992.
