Joseph's parents came from Baden- Württemberg in the early 1830s, settling first in Preston, then between New Germany and Shantz (GCT83), and later in Walkerton. Catherine came with her family from Hesse- Darmstadt in 1847, first to Preston then to Strasburg. Five of their children married into the neighbouring Reinhardt family, and two into the Weilers.},
