German Canadiana in Ontario

Welcome to the German Canadiana in Ontario Bibliography (GCO), established in 2007

GCO is a project of the University of Waterloo Library and the Waterloo Centre for German Studies. It will be updated continuously, as new information becomes available.

Its purpose is to

gather documentation relating to German-speaking people and their descendants in Ontario
cover aspects such as origin or ancestry, identity, language, social and political history, and religion
include subtler dimensions such as culture, folklore, literature, architecture, the arts, and practices such as food preparation
represent published primary, secondary and tertiary sources, and cover all publication formats
cover materials from 1800s, with large waves of German immigration to Ontario, to present day

Most items listed in GCO are part of Ontario library and archive collections. Below are suggested sites to help you pinpoint locations.
